With the Yale School of Medicine driving growth Greater New Haven is now the 2nd largest biotech cluster in New England. In the first quarter of 2016 Alexion Pharmaceuticals relocated and expanded to the newly-constructed 500000 s.f. med lab office building at 100 College Street in the heart of the medical district. This is the first development at Downtown Crossing the Citys long-term transformation of the Route 34 corridor from an expressway that separates neighborhoods to traditional urban street blocks that connect neighborhoods. The second development at the 4.5-acre Coliseum site will result in 1400 additional jobs at a new 1.1 million s.f. mixed use development transit- oriented community also within close proximity to Union Station.
